The raw human hair supply chain, stage by stage

Hair is not made in one building. It passes through six to nine specialist hands between a donor and your warehouse, and each hand can quietly change the quality of what you receive. This is the map.

Written for: Hair brand owner or wholesaler trying to understand who actually does what.

Stage 1 — Raw material collection

Origin countries: India (temple and combed hair), Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Central Asia and Eastern Europe for Slavic textures. This stage decides cuticle integrity and donor consistency, and nothing downstream can fully repair it.

Stage 2 — Sorting and grading

Hair is separated by length, texture, and whether cuticles run in one direction. Single-donor bundles, double drawn and cuticle-aligned lots are created here — not in a marketing description.

Stage 3 — Washing, bleaching and colouring

The most damaging stage and the one most buyers never inspect. Chemical strength, water quality and drying method decide whether hair reaching 613 blonde still holds together after three washes.

Stage 4 — Texture processing

Steam-set curls and waves, permed textures, straightened lots. Set quality determines how many wash cycles the pattern survives.

Stage 5 — Manufacturing

The product is finally built here, and specialists differ per format.

  • Machine wefts and hand-tied wefts
  • Genius wefts
  • Keratin / K-tips and I-tips
  • Tape-ins and clip-ins
  • Bulk hair
  • Wigs, toppers, medical wigs and Jewish wigs

Stage 6 — Quality control, packing and export

Weight per bundle, shedding test, length accuracy, colour match, packing standard and export documentation. Independent QC belongs here, paid by the buyer, not by the factory being checked.

Why one factory is rarely the best factory

The best colouring house is rarely the best weft manufacturer, and neither is the best raw material collector. A single factory that claims all of it is usually subcontracting the rest silently — which is exactly where quality drift and delays come from. Amanect builds the ecosystem instead: the best specialist per stage, verified, with one point of coordination.

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between raw, virgin and remy hair?

Raw hair is unprocessed single-donor hair with cuticles intact. Virgin hair is unprocessed but may be mixed donor. Remy means cuticles run in one direction — it can still be chemically processed.

What is a genius weft?

A thin, hand-and-machine hybrid weft with a removable return that can be cut to width without unravelling. It is a manufacturing specialism, not every hair factory does it well.

Can raw Indian or Vietnamese hair be lifted to 613 blonde?

Good quality raw hair can be, but only in a colour house that controls chemical strength and drying. Most blonde complaints originate in this stage.
