Crude vs refined sunflower oil: which should you import?

The choice between crude and refined sunflower oil decides your price, your customers and your import paperwork. Here is the practical difference.

Written for: Buyer deciding which grade of sunflower oil to import.

Crude sunflower oil (CSFO)

Pressed and extracted but not refined. Cheaper per tonne, shipped in bulk to refiners who finish it locally. India is the largest buyer of crude sunflower oil.

  • Buyers: refineries and large processors
  • Formats: vessel, flexitank
  • Key specs: FFA, moisture & impurities, phosphorus

Refined sunflower oil (RBD)

Refined, bleached and deodorised — ready for cooking, food service and retail. Higher price, but sold directly to distributors and supermarkets.

  • Buyers: distributors, HoReCa, retail
  • Formats: flexitank, bottles, tins
  • Key specs: peroxide value, colour, smell and taste

Which one should you choose?

If you own or supply a refinery, buy crude. If you sell to shops, restaurants or wholesalers, buy refined or bottled. Amanect supplies both from verified Ukrainian producers.

Questions buyers ask

Yes, in limited volumes — ask for current availability and pricing.

Does refined sunflower oil need a health certificate?
